Arief, a CIDE (Certified Industrial Designer), founded 3D Arief Atelier through a journey shaped by challenges, curiosity, and determination. From overcoming dyslexia in his early education to exploring various design industries and international experiences, each step shaped the problem-solving philosophy behind 3D Arief Atelier today.
The Journey Behind 3D Arief Atelier

PPKI SMK Yaacob Latif is where Arief began building the foundation of who he is today
"To the teachers, lecturers, and mentors who guided me with patience and belief, thank you for helping shape the person I am today" - Arief

Early Challenges
“Arief Affendi, founder of 3D Arief Atelier, was born with dyslexia, which made conventional learning challenging during his early years. With his mother’s support, he underwent Dyslexia Genius training and continued his education in the Special Education Integration Program (PPKI) at SK Taman Maluri and later SMK Yaacob Latif. Although academic progress was difficult, these experiences built the resilience and determination that continue to shape his journey today.

Choosing to Step Outside the Comfort Zone
At 16, Arief made a decision that changed the course of his life. Understanding that the world beyond special education would demand greater independence, he chose to challenge himself by enrolling in Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Melaka Tengah, Bukit Katil, a boarding vocational school. There, he studied Automotive Engineering, where hands-on training in assembling and understanding mechanical systems deepened his curiosity about how things are built and function. Living independently in the dormitory also taught him discipline, responsibility, and resilience. During this time, he became actively involved in multiple clubs and achieved strong results in his SPM marking a significant turning point after years of academic struggle.

Discovering His Strength
After graduating from high school, Arief was still uncertain about his future career. One thing, however, had always been clear he enjoyed building things and imagining ideas. He had a natural ability to visualize concepts in his mind and turn abstract thoughts into structured possibilities. Recognizing this strength, his mother helped him discover a field that matched his abilities: Industrial Design. Arief pursued his Diploma in Industrial Design (Automotive) at UiTM Lendu, Melaka, and later continued his Bachelor’s Degree at UiTM Shah Alam. During his studies, he discovered his strongest capability 3D visualization and digital modelling where imagination could be translated into clear visual concepts.

Expanding Experience
Recognized for his strong ability in 3D visualization, Arief was selected for an international internship at Atmesfer in Shanghai, where he worked as a 3D Visualizer. The experience exposed him to international design standards across industries including product design, architecture, and digital marketing visualization. After graduating, he continued working in Shanghai for another year, gaining valuable experience in a global design environment.
Upon returning to Malaysia, Arief intentionally explored multiple design industries to understand how design thinking applies across different fields. His experience expanded into interior design, architecture, landscape design, exhibition design, event design, and product development. During this time, he also strengthened his technical expertise through specialized training and professional tools, while working as a freelance designer to further develop his design and client collaboration experience.

The Birth of 3D Arief Atelier
After more than a decade of studying, working, and exploring multiple design industries, Arief recognized a gap in the market. Many 3D services focus only on producing visuals, while real design problems require clarity, strategy, and structured thinking before production begins.
With this insight, Arief founded 3D Arief Atelier as a Concept Development & Visualization Consultancy. The studio helps founders, brands, and manufacturers transform ideas into clear, strategic, and production-ready concepts preventing costly mistakes before they are built.

A Mission Beyond Business
Beyond building a company, Arief carries a deeper purpose. Growing up with dyslexia, he rarely saw successful Malaysian role models with learning disabilities. One of the few figures who inspired him was Dato’ Aliff Syukri, who openly shared his dyslexia journey. Through his own experiences, Arief hopes to inspire others facing similar challenges. His belief is simple: disability does not mean inability sometimes the very things that make us different become the strengths that shape our future.
